Melling Guitar Lessons

Do I have to be able to read music?

No. You don't need to have any previous musical knowledge or experience. Throughout the lessons, you will gradually learn how to read guitar tablature and chord charts.

How do I pay?

In cash, at the end of each lesson. Or, in the case of a discounted block-booking, by cash, cheque or BACS transfer.

When do the lessons take place?

I am available to teach on week days and Saturdays, in the afternoon or early evening.

Where do the lessons take place?

At my home in Melling which is less than 5 minutes from Kirkby station. (see the Contact page for a map).

I want to learn a specific song. Can you help?

Yes. Just bring along a CD or MP3 to the lesson, and we can work together to transcribe and learn the song.

What styles do you teach?

Whatever you're interested in. I have taught students to play rock, classical, jazz, funk, reggae and flamenco music in the past.

Do you charge cancellation fees?

Yes, I'm afraid so. If you are unable to give 24 hours' notice to cancel a lesson, the full fee will be charged.

How do you structure the lessons?

That depends on what you want to learn. A 'one size fits all' approach to music tuition seldom works well. I will work with you to find out what you want to achieve, and then personalise the lessons to meet your needs.

What teaching materials will you provide?

A wide variety of materials including chord and scale charts, tablature, sheet music and explanations of music theory and techniques.

Does it matter what kind of guitar I have?

No. I have taught students to play on electric, steel-string acoustic and classical guitars.

How much practice time do I need to put in?

As much or as little as you want. Of course, the more practice you put in, the faster your progress will be.
